twice a year, for a few brief moments at the end of the day, the path of the setting summer sun aligns perfectly with the east/west street layout of midtown manhattan, illuminating the concrete canyons of the city (and any hot dog vendors that happen to be jaywalking across 42nd street) with a brilliant warm glow. its really hard to express how cool this was to watch in person...less than five minutes after it came into view, the sun dipped below the horizon and was gone.
